My name is Anh McClure and I am the Web Production Specialist at Harrison College. This is a new position for the Harrison Marketing team, which is exciting for
me because I get to help usher in a lot of new changes on the Harrison website (not to mention working for a company identified as one of Indiana's Best Places to Work). This is exciting for
you because you get to see the magic unfold right before your eyes. There are a lot of great changes in the pipeline and I think everyone is going to be amazed at what they see.
I enjoy writing about career advancement opportunities, tips and tricks for being a motivated and productive employee (or student), the importance of a college for working adults, and random pieces on being a parent with a job while going to school.
"Thank you for calling ********, this is Anh. How may I help you?"
Yes, I've uttered those words. Maybe you have, too. I have worked many facets of the customer service scene, but one in particular set me down the road I'm on now. I worked as a technical support representative for a .com company. For me, a
help desk career was a launching pad.
I love computers and anything web related. Working as a tech rep made me wonder about all the different types of help desk careers out there, and where exactly I might fit in. As I was exposed to web development and graphic designing, I still did not know what I wanted to be 'when I grew up.'
Long story short, I went from a job I loved to another and another, and moved further away from where I actually wanted to be. Finally, I decided to get my degree in Information Technology, and I went back to school.
I don't have a help desk career now, but I have my degree, and I found the perfect IT job in the marketing department at
Harrison College, which is exactly where I want to be.
The question is, if you are currently in the field of help desk careers: are you at a dead end or using it as a launching pad? Either way,
furthering your education is a good next step.
