As you may or may not know, Harrison College has one of the premier Veterinary Technology programs in the country. Currently, Harrison College offers an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology Training at its Indianapolis Northwest Campus. Beginning sometime in 2011, the Evansville Indiana Harrison College campus will begin offering the Veterinary Technology degree as well. This is very exciting growth for this program and for Harrison College.
One of the main factors driving the expansion of the Vet Tech program at Harrison College is the viability of the degree. An article from last year recently identified Veterinary Technology as the No. 2 recession-proof job. Employment opportunities for this program continue to be excellent and employment is expected to grow much faster than average. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment will grow by 28.5K jobs or 36% between 2008-2018.
Harrison College is excited about the growth of its Veterinary Technology Training program and will look for other new campus opportunities both within the United States and possibly overseas. For more information on Harrison College's Veterinary Technology program, please visit the following website.
Harrison College is Expanding its Programs
Programs in 2011 for the Lafayette Indiana Harrison College campus could include Bachelor Degrees in Health Care Management and Business Management, as well as a Spanish for Medical Professionals Certificate. Programs in the future for the Muncie Indiana Harrison College campus could include an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Lastly, it is likely that Veterinary Technology training will be offered at the Harrison College Evansville campus in 2011 as well as at the Indianapolis Northwest Campus.
This is an exciting time for programs at Harrison College and we encourage you to forward any programmatic ideas you have to us via our website.
Your Job vs. Your Passion
Have you ever heard the phrase “make your passion your profession?” If I were a betting man, I’d wager that you have. The reason you have heard it is because it is good, sound advice. You’re supposed to think of the thing that you enjoy doing most in the world and make a career of it. Sounds simple right? Not so much. The world seems to be turning faster and faster, leaving us fewer hours in the day and leading us to wonder, “Where did time go?” We’re consumed with the responsibilities of work and family and, as a result, we’re left with less time to think about (and actually do) the things we’re most passionate about. If you’re in a similar position, and are struggling to find the thing you are most passionate about, consider these tips.
- What do you love to do?
Do you have a hobby, or something you love doing in your free time? When you were a child did you love animals and dream about going through veterinary technology training? Did you enjoy playing video games and working with computers? Spend a few minutes brainstorming your hobbies and write them down. Then research the possibility of making money doing them, and determine which ones could lead to a career.
- Ask your friends and family for their opinion.
You might be amazed at the responses you get when you ask your friends and family for their opinions. They’re usually willing to give honest, open appraisals, and many times they’ll give you a suggestion that you hadn't previously considered. They know you as well as anyone. Let them use that knowledge to help point you in the right direction.
- Research, research, and research some more.
Once you’ve come up with a few ideas, start researching them. The Internet is an amazing resource. Use it to help you determine what types of jobs are available, the amount of training you may need, and how much money you can expect to earn in that field.
If you decide that achieving your dream will require additional education and training, then Harrison College may have the exact the program you need. From business and information technology to nursing and culinary arts, there are many ways we can help you make your passion your profession.
Once you’ve determined what it is you’re most passionate about, give it a try and don’t stop! Success is not easy and it’s not guaranteed. Even the most successful people have many more failures than victories. The key is to keep trying and don’t give up!
Why We Advertise?
Ever wonder why colleges use advertising? Isn't it easy to pick the right college?
Find one you’ve heard about; go through admissions; and begin your collegiate career... Right?
Well it’s not that easy. It’s been reported that 1 in 4 college freshmen will drop-out of college before completing their freshman year. Why is this you might ask? Most of the time students drop out because they started off at the wrong institution in the first place. That’s why is so important that institutions like Harrison College advertise and inform prospective students about their benefits.
So what are some of the benefits about Harrison College that we want to message out?
A Long History. In a world where many claim to be an expert, it’s comforting to know about a school that’s truly been a leader for more than 100 years.
Personal Support. We work with students one on one to help them reach their goals, from choosing a field of study to providing Career Development Assistance
Financial Aid. We’ll help devise the best plan to finance education – almost all

business, criminal justice, health sciences, information technology and veterinary technology training.
Those interested in culinary arts or hospitality may learn at The Chef’s Academy.
Smart Choices. We develop our programs based on input from business leaders and research of industry growth trends to ensure that they offer strong career potential.
Career-Focused Degrees. Classes will center on selected areas of studies, period.
It’s all students need – and only what they need – to get the job they want.
Day, Evening & Online Classes. Students can enjoy flexible class schedule, including the ability to combine a distance learning college with varying levels of face-to-face, in-class instruction. Part-time and full-time study options offer even more convenience.
Multiple Campuses. We’ve strategically located our campuses to make it a reasonable commute for most anyone.
Lifetime Employment Assistance. We’re with our students every step of the way, providing guidance on writing cover letters, building resumes, interviewing, and starting great careers.
These attributes just name a few reasons why we advertise about the great opportunities that come with being a part of Harrison College.

Professional Vertigo Sends Adults on Search for More Education
At one time or another, I think that many of us suffer from what I like to call “professional vertigo.”
Vertigo is a condition often associated with a sensation of dizziness, confusion and a disoriented state of mind. In the ever changing world that we call “business,” it is not uncommon for our jobs to cause these same sensations. I started thinking about all of the different businesses having to make staffing changes during the economic downturn.
If asked, I believe that admissions teams at many of the Indiana accredited colleges, would agree that adult education programs have seen an increase in enrollments due to professional vertigo.
Jackie Griffith, Admissions Representative at Harrison College and graduate of Indiana Business College, explains it like this, “As the economy changes, so do the jobs. In order to stay employed or perhaps find a new job, people are finding it necessary to go back to school to earn a college degree or update a degree earned years before.”
“So many of the adult students I meet with are in need of some type of career development assistance because they now find themselves with new responsibilities in their current job or in need of finding a new career position,” adds Gina Pate, Director of Admissions at the Harrison College Columbus Indiana college campus.
Griffith is quick to add, “Those I talk with seem to understand that the key to surviving this economy is the ability to adapt and evolve. They know that in order to stay successful or to be successful in a new career, finding a college for working adults is the best way to have a competitive edge.”
If you find yourself suffering from professional vertigo, take a deep breath, relax and call Harrison College. Offering degrees in Health Care Management to Fashion Merchandising courses—from Criminal Justice to Veterinary Technology training—Harrison College has something for everyone!

Indiana Black Expo A Success For Harrison College
This weekend there were many people who asked if Harrison College was new to Indianapolis which gave us an opportunity to let people know about our name change. Harrison College was formerly Indiana Business College; the name change occurred in May. The reason for the name change is that we now offer more degree programs than just in Business. We have 5 schools: Health Sciences, Criminal Justice, Information Technology, Veterinary Technology, and Business. We now offer Degrees in health care management, surgical technology degrees, veterinary technology training, and more. Because of our growth and expansion we had out grown the name Indiana Business College.
We also had many questions about a physical therapy program. While we do not have a physical therapy program we do offer a therapeutic and clinical massage program.
Thank you again to all of you who came out to the Indiana Black Expo this weekend. If you would like more information on Harrison College you can visit our website at www.harrison.edu.

When I Grow Up, I Want To Work With Animals...
Remember when we were little and everyone used to ask us, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" For several years, I wanted to work in a veterinarian's office. I loved animals (and still do). In high school, I brought home a total of 4 stray dogs - believe me, my parents were ready for me to go to college so their home wasn't filled with dogs anymore! Here is a picture of my little long haired dachshund, Hattie:
Now, let's be honest, I bet a lot of you just said, "Awwwwww!!!" If you are one of those people, you too are probably an animal lover like me! While speaking with high school students and discussing their interests, I've noticed that not only was working with animals a childhood dream for many, but it is still their dream. At Harrison College, we noticed there was a demand for Veterinary Technology Training. Through our School of Veterinary Technology, students are pursuing veterinary technology careers so they can help take care of our pet loved ones.
In March, our School of Veterinary Technology hosted an open house. It was so wonderful to meet students from the program, observe their passion, and hear from them first hand why they love the program. For those of you that are interested in learning more about our Veterinary Technology Training, we'd love to help!

Kid Rock 7/11
